Grande Aldo won the title for Italy
Andrea Baldini, who won earlier the title in the individual competition for men’s foil, also brought Italy the title in the team’s event. In the match against Russia, the Italians were behind with the results up until the last team-match between Baldini and Renal Ganeev. The two began the fight at a result of 35:40, but gradually Grande Aldo, as he is called by his team-mates, began melting the difference until there was a tie at 43:43. That was when the controlled time ended. In the extra minute, Aldo made his ninth touché against Ganeev and with that put an end to the fight for the title – 44:43.
